Now sci-fi writers and tech creators can use movies to paint the road ahead and inspire millions of people to make their visions into a reality. Many sci-fi plots in Black Mirror, for instance, do not seem so unrealizable, as if they are about to happen in the near future. After voting within the AweSun team, here is the list of the five most popular technology movies.
The movies on this list look at many different aspects of technology. Some are older movies that predicted how technology would evolve in the future, while others make us realize the endless possibilities and great lengths to which we could still go with future technological devices. So, without any further ado, let’s check it.
Young Blade Runner K’s discovery of a long-buried secret leads him to track down former Blade Runner Rick Deckard, who’s been missing for thirty years. The problems we are familiar with – Could the feelings familiar to mankind abound within the man-made? Could an operating system grow a soul? —have an answer when K failed the Post-Trauma Baseline Test later in the film.
More wondrous still is Joi, a digital program that in turn plays K’s live-in girlfriend. At one point, Joi uses an Emanator, which allows her to escape her virtual self and to experience mortal sensations—the prick of rain on her skin, naturally, and a tangible embrace. Has science fiction, you want to ask, ever conjured a moment quite as romantic as this?
Hollywood’s production designers have been putting serious thought into the tech we’ll someday carry. Her blends a romantic comedy based on technological advances seamlessly. This Oscar-winning film follows a lonely man who develops a relationship with an advanced AI virtual assistant that’s personified through a female voice. Their bond escalates to a sexual level as the AI evolves, but the man is later crushed when he finds out it’s having relationships with thousands of people.
Released when virtual assistants such as Siri and Alexa were just getting started, Her does an incredible job of exploring the consequences of AI as it becomes more intelligent and life-like. It delves into futuristic interfaces and the emotional trauma caused by replacing real things with artificial ones.
The only Disney animated movie on this list, but WALL-E is full of tech and its ramifications. WALL-E, looks rusty and hard-working and plucky, and expresses his personality with body language and (mostly) with the binocular-like video cameras that serve as his eyes. The movie set way into the future, WALL-E is left to clean up Earth after humans are evacuated from the now-uninhabitable planet. He finds a sign of life with a visiting robot who’s looking for evidence that Earth can be saved. The two go on a journey to convince the humans – who are living in a space-based colony – to come back and fix their mess.
Sing advanced robotics to explore is something we’re doing right now, and the idea of using it to repair damaged earth is not far off. WALL-E is a poignant critique of our current levels of consumerism and pollution.
This film is a masterpiece full of philosophical propositions that Kubrick spent four years producing. The movie has been in theaters for fifty years, but we still haven’t been able to fully understand it.
Only a few films are transcendent, and work upon our minds and imaginations like music or prayer or a vast belittling landscape. Most movies are about characters with a goal in mind, who obtain it after difficulties either comic or dramatic. Alone among science-fiction movies, “2001″ is not concerned with thrilling us, but with inspiring our awe.
From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the science fiction action adventure Ready Player One, based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name. When the creator of a virtual reality called the OASIS dies, he makes a posthumous challenge to all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune and control of his world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
The main thing Ready Player One is doing is telling those ’80s-boy-culture-obsessed gamers that they matter, that in fact they are the most important people in the universe. When the movie came out, it felt like an escapist fantasy for gamers.
